Pay Slip Checker

Always check your pay slip.

Errors in pay are common and usually result from a lack of communication between your department and the medical workforce team, leading to you being paid from an old, inaccurate roster.

As a way to combat these errors, I have created a spreadsheet that can be used to check your pay relatively easily. Due to the complicated nature of our pay structure, it is often difficult to identify errors are so please use this to make it easier and get paid properly for your time. It also is a handy way to see the different penalties we get for various periods of work.

The spreadsheet also details your leave entitlements, please get to know what you’re entitled to.

Important tips for use:

  • Navigate to the “set up” tab first to enter your pay rate, PDL and salary packaging deduction (all found on your pay slip).

  • Also add your First Home Super Saver Scheme deduction amount. If you don’t use this then make it $0, but look into it. It’s basically free money for those who haven’t bought their first home yet.

  • Start entering a pay period by entering the date of the 1st day of the pay cycle on the pay tab.

  • Then add in your hours. The spreadsheet steps out how to do this properly but the vibe is add the hours in the base pay column until you hit overtime, then put any further hours in the overtime column. For any hours that incur a penalty (e.g. extra 20% from 6pm-midnight, also include the number of hours in the relevant column).

  • Manually enter your tax and super deductions from your pay slip.

  • That’s it. Make sure that the table matches your payslip (there may be very small rounding errors).

  • You can copy the output to the totals tab to keep a track of your pay over the year!

Example values are provided so you can see how it works. Delete these before inputting your own.

Enjoy, I hope this helps some of you to notice any errors and get paid properly for your valuable contributions to our health system.

If you do spot an error, call medical workforce (not HSS). I find that response is immediate when you speak to someone in person.

Their details are found on the infographic to the right. If in doubt, speak to medical workforce reception and they’ll put you through.

And as a bonus, here’s our leave request tracker!
